Map & Directions
1) Coming from the direction
of London and Henley:
• Cross Henley bridge and turn
right at the town centre traffic
lights into Bell
Street. Keep
to the left-hand lane and take the A4130 Nettlebed / Wallingford
road at the next roundabout. Go about a mile, then fork right at a
junction just before
the A4130 becomes a dual carriageway. This right-hand turn is the
B480, signposted to 'Assendons & Stonor'.
•• After
150m, fork left down a very narrow lane by a blue
sign
saying
'Unsuitable
for HGVs'. Orchard Dene Cottage is 150m further on, the first
house on the left
(look for our 5-bar gate beside a 'B&B' sign, and ignore
an open driveway to "Orchard Dene" just before this). We have
ample off-road parking space.
2) If you come from
the Oxford/Wallingford direction:
• A
mile or two after Nettlebed the A4130 becomes a dual carriageway
at Bix.
At the lower end of this dual carriageway, down a long hill, turn off
left. The minor road (the B480) is signposted to 'Assendons & Stonor'.
•• After
150m, fork left down a very narrow lane by a blue sign saying 'Unsuitable
for HGVs'. Orchard Dene Cottage is 150m further on, the first
house on the left (look for our 5-bar gate with a 'B&B' sign, and
ignore an open driveway to "Orchard Dene" just before this). We
have ample off-road parking space.
3) Should you come
off the M40 at
junction 6, travelling from the north:
• Turn right on
to the B4009, go under the motorway and continue to Watlington. Here,
there's
a T-junction
with the B480; turn left towards Nettlebed. After two miles and soon
after reaching the top of a long hill the B480 turns off left [see
* below] and the B481 goes straight on to Nettlebed. In the dark it
is best to go to Nettlebed; there, turn left when you reach the A4130
- see above (2•).
[*] An alternative 'scenic route' for the daytime is to
stay on the B480 instead of going to Nettlebed, dropping down through
Pishill, Stonor and Middle Assendon. At Lower Assendon, see the 'Golden
Ball' pub on your right; about 200m after this, turn right (at a very
sharp angle) up the 'Unsuitable for HGVs' lane - see above (1••,
2••).
